Cambridge Shady Courtyard
The garden is surrounded by overhanging birch trees creating shade and dappled sunlight. The client had found it difficult finding an interesting planting scheme that thrived in existing conditions. A low raised bed and trellis was added to one side of the garden to help with soil improvements under the tree canopy and bring the plants closer to eye level helping to give the garden a ‘full’ feeling.
A large Fatsia fills the garden creating height, volume and impact, underplanted with ferns and evergreen shrubs. Whilst in the raised bed grasses and ferns intermingle with seasonal perennials in a palette of white and blue. All perimeter fences and walls are covered with evergreen climbers and clematis. A sophisticated and urban feel creating a green and cool oasis in an urban space.
